So what is macrame?
Many people believe that macrame originated with Arabian weavers in the 13th century. These Arab weavers would knot the excess thread along the edges of their fabrics into decorative fringes. The word macrame is Arabic in origin and is believed to mean "ornamental fringe". Later this craft was practiced in France and Italy as early as the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries where fabrics made from the patterned knots were used in chruches for vestments and altar cloths. Macrame then made it's way to the court of Mary II in the late 17th century. Macrame has spread around the world with the help of sailors who would practice it aboard the ships as a way of passing the time.
The craft of macrame was combined with hemp to make hemp jewelry during the hippie movement of the sixties.
Why use hemp to make hemp jewelry.
Hemp is popular because it is enviromentaly friendly.
